Gabriel Dias De Holanda, 19, is facing charges of manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Worcester County District Attorney said.

He was ordered held without bail following his arraignment on Monday, May 6.

Dias De Holanda is accused of killing 18-year-old Jacob O. Osanya, of Uxbridge, in an Aug. 6, 2022, single-car crash on Glenview Way, Upton police said. Osanya was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after being trapped inside the vehicle.

Five people were in the car at the time of the wreck, and all were sent to the hospital with injuries.

Police found several Blue Moon bottles next to the crashed car. Prosecutors said during his arraignment that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Days after the crash, Dias De Holanda and his mother stopped cooperating with police or answering their calls. They then fled the country to their homeland of Brazil. Brazilian officials will not extradite naturalized citizens.

Worcester County police learned in December 2023 that Dias De Holanda was traveling to the United Kingdom. Officials there had no problem sending him back to the United States to stand trial following an extradition hearing in February.

US Marshals escorted him back to the United States on May 3.
